A stunning fancy vivid blue diamond ring, purchased by legendary luxury jeweller Harry Winston for US$8.88 million, headlined Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction on May 30.

The auction house raised a total of around US$80 million from the sale of an expansive range of fine diamond and coloured gemstone jewellery. The top-selling ring by Moussaieff features a 3.98-carat fancy vivid blue VVS2 diamond centre gem, surrounded by cushion-shaped and triangular pink diamonds with pink baguette diamonds on the loop.

Other stellar lots were a double-strand jadeite bead and diamond necklace, which sold for US$7.14 million; the 25.27-carat “Jonker V” rectangular-cut, D-colour diamond ring by Harry Winston, which was snapped up for US$5.27 million; and a Kashmir sapphire and diamond bracelet, which a private bidder bought for US$4.7 million.

Another highlight of the sale was the “Palmette” necklace adorned with emeralds and diamonds by Edmond Chin for the House of Boghossian, which fetched around US$6 million. The piece set a world auction record for a selection of no-oil Colombian emeralds, according to Christie’s.

The necklace features 11 palmette-motif designs. Each bejewelled set is adorned with emeralds weighing approximately 12.34 carats to 3.03 carats, alternating with diamond foliate links.

Rounding up the top 10 lots were a pair of earrings featuring oval-shaped fancy purplish pink diamonds of 4.64 carats and 4.01 carats, respectively (US$3.4 million); a pair of earrings embellished with a 16.23-carat Kashmir sapphire and a 10.93-carat D-colour IF diamond (US$3.1 million); a 3.37-carat hexagonal fancy intense blue diamond ring by Etcetera (US$2.8 million); a jadeite bangle (US$2.32 million); and a 13.77-carat D-colour, pear-shaped diamond ring by Cartier (US$2.09 million).
