One of Asia’s top three fine jewellery events, the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair kicks off its 30th anniversary today with a host of exciting attractions, including the launch of the CORE Pavilion – a dedicated area for jewellery companies that have supported jewellery and gem fairs in Hong Kong over the years and consider Hong Kong as the platform from which they grow their businesses.

Scheduled for June 22 to 25, the show is anticipated to draw more than 25,000 local and overseas buyers during its four-day run at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The fair’s 30th edition is featuring almost 2,100 exhibitors from 40 countries and regions who are showcasing a comprehensive collection of fine finished jewellery, diamonds, pearls, gemstones and packaging products, tools and equipment. This year, the product portfolio is further enriched with fashion jewellery and stainless steel jewellery.

The CORE Pavilion is highlighting the latest collections of more than 60 Hong Kong companies. Key themes such as the Fine Design and Fine Gem Pavilions (FDP/FGP) in the Grand Hall have likewise proven to be crowd-pleasers at the June Hong Kong Fair for many years since their launch. These sections are featuring exquisite jewellery pieces, fine diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls and timepieces from over 70 globally renowned jewellers.

Another standout section is the Diamond Pavilion, which features 420 exhibitors.

“It remains one of the largest diamond pavilions in the world,” according to Wolfram Diener, senior vice president at UBM Asia. “The June Fair also features 18 group pavilions from various countries, including India, one of the largest jewellery markets in the Asia Pacific.”

Following the successful launch of the “Declaration Programme on Exhibits of Natural Diamond” scheme at last year’s September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, UBM Asia is introducing the scheme at this edition of the June Hong Kong Fair.

The programme acknowledges members of recognised diamond trade associations who make a declaration that they supply and exhibit only natural diamonds during the fair. Each of these diamond exhibitors will display in their booths the official poster issued by UBM Asia that identifies them as natural diamond suppliers.

“This scheme is certainly a winning proposition for both diamond exhibitors and buyers,” Diener said.

The JNA Awards, one of the most prestigious and coveted awards in the international jewellery and gemstone industry, is announcing this year’s finalists or Honourees at a news conference. Organised by JNA, the annual JNA Awards recognises and honours companies and individuals that have exhibited innovation, excellence, best business practices and outstanding business performance.

Various seminars on diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls are likewise scheduled for June 23 and 24.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is holding a seminar, GIA M2M: A Digital Storytelling Platform and App, on June 23, with Matt Crimmin serving as the resource speaker. GIA’s Dr. Shoko Odake will also talk about the lab’s latest device for testing mounted diamonds.

Speakers on June 24 include GRS Laboratories CEO Dr. Adolf Peretti (New “Kashmir-type” sapphires from Madagascar and how to distinguish them from their Indian counterparts); Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand Advisor Dr. Pornsawat Wathanakul (The importance of Master Colour Standard: Pigeon’s Blood Ruby, Royal Blue and Cornflower Blue Sapphires); Gemmological Association of Hong Kong Secretary Dr. Edward Liu (Burmese Amber – A Rare Antique Gem from Cretaceous); and senior gemmologist Zhu Yiwei (An opportunity to learn about Japan’s quality standards for grading the value and beauty of pearls).
