The Guangdong Gems & Jade Exchange (GDGJE) and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) signed a strategic cooperation aimed at building a platform to aggressively promote coloured gemstones in China and globally.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will likewise facilitate a more seamless international exchange and trade of coloured gemstones. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of this year's Hong Kong International Diamond Gem & Pearl Show.

GDGJE General Manager Li Zhiwei and ICA President Clement Sabbagh signed the MoU with Chen Jie, director of the Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Committee; Zhang Liping, deputy inspector of the Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Committee; Wilson Yuen, past president of ICA; and Benjamin Hackman, immediate past president of ICA, as witnesses.

ICA, a non-profit organisation, was founded in 1984. It has more than 700 members from 47 countries, including miners, gem cutters, suppliers, retailers, trade associations, gemmological laboratories, the academe and museums. The association said its aim is to advance and promote knowledge and appreciation of coloured gemstones worldwide.
